Holiday Photo Shoot On The Country Club Plaza

Patrick Saunders and I had the pleasure of photographing these two adorable newlyweds right before Christmas. They were so in love - seeing happy couples gaze at each other so blissfully never gets old!

Pioneer Mother Statue, Penn Valley Park

I took a few photos this morning of the snow covered pioneer mother statue when I wasn't chasing the dogs around with my camera. I really like how several of them came out.

Barney The Snow Bunny

Barney and Betty had such a good time in the snow this morning at Penn Valley Park - they love it. Barney romped around like a mad man, and purposely flopped on his belly after a running start in order to slide crash into his sister. Such a goofball. He's a 14-and-a-half-year-old puppy.

Rackers Gierer Pre Wedding Photo Shoot

Patrick Saunders and I are going to have the privilege of documenting the candlelit New Year's Eve wedding ceremony of this lovely couple. I love capturing love. I love my job. Just look at these two - the picture of happiness.

Singer Family Holiday Photo Shoot

Patrick Saunders and I had the privilege of photographing a really fun family on Thanksgiving weekend. We had to cover a lot of ground in only one hour, but this family made it a pleasure - lots of laughter and joking throughout. We shot a lot of photographs utilizing this very interesting sculpture in their front yard. A fun family that appreciates art - definitely our kind of people!

This is one of my favorites - a nice moment between a mother and her daughters. Thank you Patrick Saunders again for being the world's best shooting partner!

A grandson and grandmother doing their best Charlie's Angels. This was grandma's idea - fun grandmothers are the best, and if you grew up with one you are blessed! Their metal buddy is Joe Six, a quirky sculpture that has become a beloved part of the family.

Carsten and Connor Leimer Holiday Card Photo Shoot

Photographing siblings can be challenging, especially when they don't get along. But Carsten and Connor were a delight - they actually like each other! They got up really early during their break for a holiday card shoot, which I'm sure they weren't thrilled about, but they knew it would make their mother happy, and they were great sports about it - lots of joking and laughing the whole time. The Leimer family is absolutely lovely inside and out!

Patrick Saunders Winter 2014 Painting Class Promotional Video

The best part of making this promotional video for Patrick Saunders' winter 2014 painting classes was hearing his students talk about how much their art has enriched their lives, and has changed the way they see the world - it was so inspiring!

Patrick Saunders Landscape Commission

This was my favorite place on the property Patrick Saunders and I hiked yesterday. The owner of the acreage has commissioned Patrick to paint a landscape of the property, and I really hope she picks this spot.

Sunday, October 26, 2014

I am not a fan of spiders, but their webs are beautiful. Patrick Saunders spied this beautiful thing when we were out yesterday hiking with the dogs in Shawnee Mission Park.

Patrick Saunders' Rosedale WWI Memorial Arch Painting

Patrick Saunders and I visited the Rosedale Memorial Arch in Kansas City, Kansas, last January. The arch sits on a hill, and we wanted to photograph it in winter light. Patrick wanted winter light and vegetation for this painting because he wanted the focus to be on the arch itself, and to be able to depict it in in soft, cool, winter light. I love the result - cool winter light and the colors it creates on structures and nature can be very beautiful.

Grey Wise High School Senior Photo Shoot

I love this outtake from a senior shoot Patrick Saunders and I did with Grey last week. She was such a good sport about all the pirouettes we asked her to do.

Grey Wise High School Senior Shoot: Another Favorite

When I am photographing clients, I shoot for them, focusing on their likes, wants, and needs. But I try to make sure to take a few images just for me on each shoot. This is one of those images from a senior shoot Patrick Saunders and I did with the lovely Grey. I have a thing for eyelash photos for some reason. Don't know why, but this photo makes me very happy.

Grey Wise High School Senior Photo Shoot

Patrick Saunders and I did a senior shoot with Grey Wise on Monday, and not only did her lovely mother Jackie join us - and act as a top notch photo stylist - but Grey's father even came - love this family! And when the shoot was over, and Grey was having trouble navigating her way back to the car due to her killer red pumps, mom Jackie gave her a piggy back ride. How totally adorable are these two girls?

Luke Ritter High School Senior Shoot - One More Image

I couldn't help posting one more of my favorites from the senior shoot Patrick Saunders and I did with Luke Ritter. We just got a lovely email from his mother - she is thrilled with her photo gallery. Making people happy is one of the best parts of our job.

Luke Ritter High School Senior Photo Shoot

This is one of Patrick Saunders' favorite images from our shoot with senior Luke Ritter. I really like the way the entire shoot turned out, but I especially love the baseball images, and particularly the black and white images.

High School Senior Photo Shoot With Luke Ritter

Patrick Saunders and I recently did a senior photo shoot with this impressive young man. Luke Ritter is a senior at Rockhurst High School this year, and will head to Wichita State University next year on a baseball scholarship. He has been playing baseball seriously since he was a young boy, which means a lot of hard work over the years on his part, and a huge commitment on the part of his parents to support his aspirations. Luke wasn't really into having a senior shoot - it was his mother who really wanted it. But this is a kid who has great parents, and he knows it, so he played along and was a really good sport about the whole thing, just to make his mother happy. We were rained out from our first shoot, and the only day we could reschedule was Mindy Ritter's birthday. We didn't know it was her birthday until the shoot started - this wonderful mother was willing to sacrifice part of her special day to make sure this shoot happened - it was that important to her. And I shouldn't reveal this, but before the shoot, Luke even went to a quilting store with his mother to sign off on a quilt she is making of his baseball jerseys. Even if it was my mother's birthday, there is NO WAY any of my three brothers would set foot in a quilting store for Mom, even if that was her only birthday wish. Luke is a great kid from a terrific family, and Patrick and I wish him all the best for his very bright future.

SFA Photo Of The Day: Bicycle Cart In Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico

An throwback Thursday image ... I photographed this bicycle cart while on a street photography walk in Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico, with Patrick Saunders. We spent Christmas of 2012 at a cottage on a beach in Tankah Bay north of Tulum.

Portraits Of Collin Murphy

Our nephew Collin Murphy was all too happy to be our subject for some outdoor lighting experiments once we promised him dinner anywhere he wanted afterward. This is Collin's baller pose. This kid is 10 going on 30.

Love these freckles!

Portrait Of Barney Saunders

The one, the only, Barney "SuperSpaz" Saunders. This crazy old man likes to sleep all day and keep us up all night. We are perpetually sleep deprived these days, and to add insult to injury, Barney, who runs in his sleep a lot, managed to kick Patrick in the personal parts last night on a particularly vigorous sleep run. Oh well, he's worth it - who could resist this doggy smile?

Family Christmas Card Photo Shoot In July

Patrick Saunders and I recently did a Christmas card photo shoot for a family in July of all months because it was the only time the whole family could get together under one roof before the holidays. This lovely family has two beautiful orange tabby cats who they wanted to include in their shoot. These handsome fellows did a pretty decent job of posing for us for the shoot, and even let us photograph them individually after we were done with the family picture. I don't want to post any of the family photos so as not to spoil their Christmas card, even though it is months away, but I couldn't resist posting one more image of one of the handsome tabby brothers. Don't let this serious face fool you - this boy was the friendliest, sweetest little thing - Patrick and I fell hard for them both right away. Tabbies tend to have that effect on people.

SFA Photo Of The Day: The Henry Shaw Mausoleum At The Missouri Botanical Garden

While visiting the Missouri Botanical Garden, we happened upon the mausoleum of Henry Shaw, the founder of the garden. Mr. Shaw has a truly beautiful and peaceful resting place. We need to return to "Shaw's Garden" as soon as possible, because we didn't have nearly enough time to take this incredible garden in. It really is outstanding, and so large, you need at least a full day to explore it.

SFA Photo Of The Day: Gecko Lizard At The Missouri Botanical Garden Climatron

Patrick Saunders spotted this charming creature during our visit last weekend to the Missouri Botanical Garden Climatron in St. Louis. The Gecko lizard didn't seem to mind being photographed - it didn't scamper off anyway - and at no time did it try to sell us any car insurance.

Patrick Wins The KC Big Picnic Quick Paint Event

I am so proud for Patrick Saunders that he won the first KC Big Picnic's first Quick Paint event last Sunday. KC Big Picnic was sponsored by MWE, Inc., The Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum. Patrick has had such an incredible en plein air year already, and he is just getting started!

White Roses Painting By Patrick Saunders

This is the first floral painting by Patrick Saunders that I didn't even have a chance to get attached to and cry about when it's gone because it has already sold. This floral was purchased while it was still wet on his easel! Patrick did this painting as a demonstration for students in his latest painting class at Eva Reynolds Fine Arts Gallery in Leawood, KS. Eva took a picture of the painting as Patrick was finishing it, e-mailed the picture to a client, and the collector bought the painting on the spot just from the cell phone photo! I loved this painting the second I saw it, but I only got to photograph it, and then it was gone.

The First Look - Wedding Photography

This is another one of my favorites from a wedding I second shot for Pond Photography this season. The look of pure love on their faces when this couple had their first look on their wedding day is really touching. True love is a beautiful thing.

A Beautiful Wedding Day In April

This is my favorite image from a wedding I second shot for Pond Photography in April. It was one of the first warm days of the year, perfect for a wedding, and this was truly the sweetest couple I have ever met. It was a wonderful day.

Flower Girl Portrait

I was second video shooting a wedding last weekend, and I just had to stop and take some stills of this adorable little flower girl. Her handmade dress and hair piece were really lovely. With all the tulle and a feather fringe, she looked like a little swan! Her mother was trying valiantly to get her to pose formally, but this cute tot just wasn't having it. What a face - those curls and those blue eyes - irresistible!

Patrick Saunders En Plein Air Workshop, June 8th, 2014

Patrick Saunders taught his first en plein air class on Sunday. The original date on Saturday was rained out, but Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day, and most participants were able to attend on Sunday. A good time was had by all - attendees were fortunate to have an incredible outdoor space to paint. Patrick already has requests for more workshops, so if you missed this one, you will have the chance to sign up for a future workshop!

SFA Photo Of The Day: Striped Rose, Loose Park Rose Garden

I photographed this beauty just before Rose Day June 1st at the Loose Park Rose Garden. I didn't know before now how relatively rare striped roses are, especially those that occur naturally.

Patrick Saunders Toy Tractors Painting

Patrick Saunders is participating in this year's Stems Plein-Air competition, and he completed this whimsical painting, "Toy Tractors", Saturday at the event's last quick paint event. The toy tractors were waiting for children to play with them at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead.

SFA Photo Of The Day: Pink Rose At Loose Park Rose Garden

June 1st is Rose Day at the Loose Park Rose Garden, which is lovingly tended by the Kansas City Rose Society. If you love roses, try to stop by the park for the show Sunday afternoon if you can - the garden is in full bloom right now and looks amazing!
