Laguna Art Museum - Laguna Beach, California

Some favorites from the Laguna Art Museum.

It can be hard to tear yourself away from the beautiful outdoors when you are in Laguna Beach, California, but a visit to this museum is time well spent.
"The Old Post Office" - Joseph Kleitsch

The way this dog is dashed off is just wonderful. There is so little to it, and it's a very small part of a large painting, yet it anchors and is the focal point of the entire thing.

"Old Fishing Pier, Laguna" - Nicolai Fechin

"Untitled, women on the beach" - Norman Chamberlain

"Enchantment" - Joseph Kleitsch

The piece of art at the Getty Museum that struck us most was the building complex itself.

Patrick Saunders - Southwest Art Magazine September 2018 Cover

I found a link to Southwest Art Magazine's September 2001 '21 under 31' list, a roster that Patrick Saunders shared with such talented artists as Jeremy Lipking and Jennifer Diehl.

http://bit.ly/Patrick-Saunders-21-Under-31

Reading this again after so many years was like stepping back in time. Patrick's journey as an artist hasn't been linear, but it prepared him to be the painter and teacher he is now.

What strikes me most after reading his ’21 under 31’ comments, and then his feature for the September 2018 cover, is how important it is to never give up. Life gets in the way, and your passion may not always be your living, but the only way you really lose is if you give up on whatever it is that makes life worthing living to you.

This is a big milestone for Patrick, and I am so proud for him, and of how hard he works at what he loves. I look forward to seeing the artist that Patrick will be next month, next year, and in the next decade. This is a path he’s been on since childhood, and he’ll be on it, one way or another, for the rest of his life. - Kimberly

TBT - Pet Portrait of Onyx the Pit Bull Terrier

For throwback Thursday, one of our favorite pet portraits.
Onyx the Pit Bull Terrier is the most gentle soul you will ever meet. Her piglet plush toy was her version of a teddy bear, looking a bit worse for wear because she carried it everywhere, even sleeping with it.
Onyx was a rescue from a backyard breeder. Her piglet gave her comfort, perhaps representing a pup she undoubtedly lost while being overbred. It is always very humbling to meet dogs like Onyx who, despite what they have been through, have nothing but love for everyone.

Saunders Fine Arts Photography - Benton's Pet Portrait Photo Shoot

Yet again, some housing host fur kids we've fallen in love with. We have not one, not two, but THREE orange tabby cats to love on this week at Plein Air Easton. Orange tabbies are the best.

Benton here is such a sweet, gentle soul. Wyatt is the playful one, but he refused to pose for us even for a moment, and Cody just hasn't warmed up to us much yet. We'll have to try harder with him.

Benton was a little bit spooked by the camera, but Kimberly managed to catch a photograph of him lounging on the sun dappled tile floor of an outdoor screened-in porch. Click here to see the portrait Patrick Saunders painted of Benton as a gift for our hosts.

Whether you're a cat lover or not, there's just no way this little face won't melt your heart.

Patrick Saunders Plein Air Workshop - Honeybee Vineyards

We're thinking of making mandatory now for artists to bring their dogs with them to Patrick Saunders plein air painting workshops.

Our thanks to all of the artists who came out to Honeybee Vineyards to paint with Patrick, and a special thanks Paul and Melissa Hughes and their bulldog Chester for being such wonderful hosts.

Patrick Saunders Plein Air Workshop - Femme Osage

Femme Osage is still Patrick's favorite place to paint in the Augusta, Missouri, area, and he was able to teach his first of two plein air workshops there at Femme Osage Haus for the 2018 Augusta Plein Air Festival.

It was a privilege to spend time at this tranquil, charming place on such a perfect spring day.
