Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Old Suspension Bridge, Costa Rica

The old bridge at Rincon de La Vieja Volcano National Park, and the current one. We were fine with taking the newer one.

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Spider Monkey, Costa Rica

A possibly pregnant female spider monkey at the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park

We couldn't hike the volcano trail while we were there - it is closed right now because of high volcanic activity, but a visit to this park is still well worth it for the wildlife, waterfalls, mud pots, and hot springs.

Pet Portrait Commission Photo Shoot - Keeping Secrets is Hard

When you really really want to post an outtake from a pet portrait commission photo shoot, because the subject is So Incredibly Adorable, but you have to keep your trap shut for now because it's a Christmas present. Secrets are hard to keep, and happy secrets are even harder.

So instead, here's Gene, our favorite Boston Terrier, from a 2016 portrait shoot for Patrick Saunders. He looks super serious here, maybe even a tad annoyed, because we were making him do dumb stuff like sit still, but if you could only see the little bouncy thing he does when he's happy to see you, it would melt your heart.

Patrick Saunders Fine Arts Painting Workshops

One of my favorite jobs in helping to run Patrick Saunders world is documenting his painting workshops.

I love watching the change that takes place, every single time. Art is personal, so there's often anxiety at first, even fear, especially among those who have never painted before, or who haven't painted for long.

But by the end of the workshop, the entire group is relaxed, laughing, and having fun. They can talk about their work openly and honestly, with Patrick and each other. They learn a lot, and I've seen artistic breakthroughs so emotionally overwhelming that tears flow.

All of this is due to Patrick. Yes, I know I'm biased, but I've seen it with my own eyes over and over again. Patrick is not only a talented artist, he's a great teacher as well. They are actually two very different skill sets, and one doesn't necessarily guarantee the other. Patrick creates a teaching environment where people can feel at ease. It’s a great way to learn. He doesn’t consider fear or intimidation to be teaching tools, and you won’t be so bored watching his demos that you fight falling asleep.

Come join him at a Patrick Saunders Fine Arts workshop near you. Patrick promises to make it fun and inspiring, and I promise you that you have nothing to fear, and you’ll never be bored. - Kimberly
