Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Sunrise on Frederick, Maryland

#TakeMeBackTuesday to a vivid sunrise in June 2016 on the Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick, Maryland, where Patrick Saunders Fine Arts was painting for Easels in Frederick.

Frederick is up there with Bisbee, Arizona on our favorite American towns list.

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Goldent Gate Bridge in Fog, San Francisco Bay, San Francisco, California

Normally when you can't see well in San Francisco, it's because of the beautiful effects of fog.

We loved our time living in this gorgeous city, and it hurts to see what the sky looks like there right now.

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Templo del Dios del Viento, Tulum México Ruinas Mayas, Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico

#TakeMeBackTuesday to Templo del Dios del Viento at the Tulum México Ruinas Mayas in Quintana Roo, Mexico.

We spent the 2012/2013 winter holidays in a cottage on the beach of Tankah Bay, not far from these ruins. Our favorite town on this trip was Valladolid. Looking forward to exploring other parts of Mexico again someday.

Petit Palais Musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris

#TakeMeBackTuesday to the Petit Palais Musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris

I was more drawn to the art of the architecture even than to the paintings inside. This is a view of the central dome of the museum from its beautiful outdoor courtyard and garden. It has a ship sculpture (Emile Peynot?) that represents the coat of arms of Paris, and amazing round stained glass windows by Louis-Charles-Marie Champigneulle.

There is so much to see and appreciate just in this courtyard, let alone the rest of the building by Charles Girault. Definitely a wonderful place to pause and take in art and architectural history. - Kimberly

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - The Baked Potato in California

For #ThrowbackThursday, our first Airstream, a Bambi, on the road near the Chandelier Tree in Leggett, California.

This photo from the fall of 2016 is out of focus, but I kept it because I really liked it anyway. It's out of focus because I was taking pictures while driving, which I shouldn't do, or admit to, because it's dangerous, but our 'Baked Potato' looked so good on the road that sometimes I just couldn't help myself. Traveling the West Coast with our Bambi is an experience we'll never forget, and that we can't wait to do again with our Flying Cloud. - Kimberly

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Sunflowers In A Windowsill, Texas

Here's my take on the sunflower bouquet Patrick Saunders painted from life last week. Couldn't let these beauties go without trying to get some pictures.

Patrick felt like they were dancing when he painted them. When I grouped them in this small blue vase to photograph them, it was like a pretty girl with untamable hair. - Kimberly

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Cape Flattery Rainforest Trail, Neah Bay, Washington, Makah Reservation

In keeping with reminiscing about our 2016 trip to Washington on our Plein Air Streaming page today, here are some images of a day we spent hiking the Cape Flattery rain forest trail on the northwestern tip of the Olympic Peninsula at Neah Bay, Washington on the Makah Reservation.

This area about an hour-and-half away from Port Angeles, Washington is still the most beautiful place we have ever been in the U.S., and we look forward to camping there again some day. If you book the right spot at the Salt Creek Recreation Area, you are literally on a cliff overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, an outlet to the Pacific Ocean.

The most northwestern point of the continental United States.

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Excelsior Geyser Crater, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

For #ThrowbackThursday, a photo from our 2016 visit to the Excelsior Geyser Crater in the Midway Geyser Basin at Yellowstone National Park. At 190 degrees, this spring is even hotter than the Grand Prismatic Spring.

We took our time Airstreaming through Wyoming, Montana, and Arizona with our Airstream Bambi (the Baked Potato) on this unforgettable trip, and we look forward to visiting other parts of these beautiful states again with our Flying Cloud, the Sweet Potato.

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park

#TakeMeBackTuesday to the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park

This spring, the largest hot spring in the country, is said to generate more than 500 gallons of 160 degree water every minute. You can almost never get a complete look at it because the water is so hot it generates constant massive steam clouds. And the colors of the microbes around it ...

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Caturday

For #Caturday, our pretty little princess Opal, who we lost to cancer in 2014.

She was a sweet, gentle little fluff ball who loved to sprawl out on the floor on her back and nap in the sun by a window. (We tried to catch that in this photo, but the shutter sound made her open her eyes and swivel her head around.)

She had the prettiest green eyes and a little pink nose that she would constantly get food stuck in while eating, but she would only let Patrick get it out, because Opal was totally daddy's girl.

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Blue Hydrangeas, Union Square Park, New York

#TakeMeBackTuesday to a summer afternoon spent in Union Square Park.

We were sorry to miss our annual New York trip this year to visit our old stomping grounds and take in some art, our favorite pizza and great farmer's markets, especially the one in Union Square. Fingers crossed for next year.

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Airstream Bambi Sport 16, Marshfield, Missouri

For #ThrowbackThursday, a photo of our first Airstream, the Bambi Sport 16, that we ended up calling the "Baked Potato."

This is a great memory for us of a beautiful morning on the Young farm near Marshfield, Missouri in 2016, where Patrick Saunders taught a plein air workshop. The Bambi looked right at home next to this gorgeous old barn. Patrick also did a painting of our Bambi against this barn that ended up on the cover of Airstream Life magazine.

Throwback Thursday - Saunders Fine Arts Portrait Photography

I haven’t shot any portraits in a long time, so for #ThrowbackThursday, here are a few of my old favorites.

Maybe it’s time to talk Patrick Saunders into sitting for another portrait. - Kimberly
