Patrick Saunders Fine Arts December 2020 Art Newsletter - The Right Reds

Happy New Year's Eve to all!

Even though I didn't travel much in 2020, I was often distracted from painting because it's been such a turbulent year. My new year's resolution is to tune out the noise and re-focus on my art. I'm going to end the year by sharing some of my thoughts on color.

Red is one of the most difficult colors to work with in painting. If you struggle to get just the right reds in your work, there are steps you can take to simplify the mixing process.

Sign up at the link below for my latest newsletter to learn more about how to mix a range of reds. - Patrick Saunders

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Variegated Pothos

I love Pothos for its resiliency and forgiving nature, and this little heart-shaped, nicely variegated leaf makes me smile every time I look at it. - Kimberly

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Sunrise On An Old Barn in Augusta, Missouri

For #ThrowbackThursday, a photo of what is still one of my best plein air event memories of all time, back in 2016, when Patrick Saunders and I spent a beautiful, peaceful sunrise at an old barn in Augusta, Missouri.

Patrick was painting the back of the barn for the Augusta Plein Air Festival (you can see the top of his easel in the far back left), while I photographed the morning light on the front.

Good times.

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - Texas Bluebonnets

#TakeMeBackTuesday to photographing a field of bluebonnets on a warm spring day in 2016 in Marble Falls, Texas while Patrick was plein air painting. Another nice memory of roaming freely in a new town and snapping whatever caught my eye. - Kimberly

Saunders Fine Arts POTD - The Doorways of Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico

For #ThrowbackThursday, one of many beautiful doorways in Valladolid, a city built by Spanish settlers in the 16th Century on top of a formerly Maya town.

Can't wait to go back and explore more of Mexico. - Kimberly
